Shovelware

The derogatory term shovelware (Eng. "shovel - ware" ) refers to software that is known more for the quantity of programs and less on quality or benefit.

The term is most often used for software on CD- ROMs, their large capacity led some producers to fill them with all kinds of data ( for example: 20 different image converter, which all do about the same ), so it with great scope can advertise the product.

The name was formed the same way as freeware, shareware, etc.. Instead of selecting the programs and integrate them into the CD, it was without a closer look, just " scooped out ".
