Showcase (comics)

Showcase is the title of a comic book series published, the U.S. publisher DC Comics, between March 1956 and September 1970, and between August 1977 and September 1978. Showcase appeared monthly expenditure and reached 104.

Publication history

The series served as a forum for the presentation of new characters and concepts. Both the contents of the series as well as the formative artists they changed constantly. New ideas should be tested as part of Showcase with readers on their popularity back, without bringing to the publisher the financial risk and the organizational effort untried substances in separate series on the market. In 1970, the series was temporarily discontinued with issue # 94 and 1976 continued under the old numbering with issue # 95, until they were finally set in 1977 with issue # 104.

Another 48 issues were ShowCase published each appeared under one year label between 1993 and 1996 ( Showcase '93, Showcase '94, etc.) were numbered and each of # 1 to # 12. The series presented each one long and two short adventures that were created by constantly changing the "Creative Team " and constantly changing focused characters. Due to dwindling demand, the series with the output of December 1996 has been set.

Content

The figures, which were tested in our own stories as part of Showcase include: the superhero Flash, the Challengers of the Unknown (# 6), the journalist Lois Lane (# 9), the space adventurer Adam Strange (# 17) the time-traveling Rip Hunter, Time Master (# 20), Green Lantern (# 22), the group of divers Sea Devils (# 27), the superhero atom ( # 34), the robot Metal Men ( # 37), the godlike Spectre (# 60), the Inferior Five ( # 62), the African adventurer B'wana Beast (# 66), the Creeper (# 73), the cave boy Anthro (# 74), the disparate sisters Hawk and Dove (# 75) gunslinger Bat Lash (# 76), the obscure pair Angel and the Ape (# 77) and the mysterious Phantom Stranger (# 80).

In addition, presented a copy of " Showcase" a comic adaptation of the movie James Bond Dr. No.

Among the artists who worked in the course of time on the series included, among other things, the authors Arnold Drake, Robert Kanigher, John Broome, Jack Kirby, Otto Binder and artist Win Mortimer, Joe Kubert, Ross Andru Russ Heath, Carmine Infantino.

Reprints

Since the early 1990s numerous showcase stories are republished in various forms. Both in anthologies as well as in the series " Showcase Presents ", which presented in black and white held facsimile reprints of old editions. The reprints were identical except for the " Presents" on the cover sheet and the lack of coloring with the originals.
