Shozhma

Schoschma (Russian Шожма ) is a railway station in North West Russia. The place belongs to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 162 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). Schoschma located in Njandomski rayon.

Geography

Schoschma is located about 290 kilometers southwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk. The nearest town Nyandoma is approximately 28 kilometers south of Schoschma and is also the administrative center of the raion. South of Schoschma runs the eponymous river Schoschma, which gave its name to the station.

History

Schoschma emerged at the end of the 19th century during the construction of the railway line Vologda - Arkhangelsk. By the early 1990s, the forestry long time was the main industry of the place. In Soviet times, here was a labor camp, which until 1985 had stock.

Economy and infrastructure

Schoschma is a station of the Northern Railway on the route Konosha - Arkhangelsk. The train is due to lack of road connections at the same time the only transport route to the nearby Rajonzentrum Nyandoma. Since the collapse of forestry in Schoschma the railway transport is the only remaining industry. Schoschma among others in possession of a library.
