SHRDLU

SHRDLU was one of the first computer programs, speech understanding, and simulation -planned activities linked to each other. It was developed in 1972 by Terry Winograd and allowed the manipulation of simulated building blocks in an imaginary environment via instructions in natural language.

Today there is no working version of SHRDLU more. The original was written in Micro Planner and in MacLisp ( a variant of the LISP programming language ), for which there is no interpreter today. On the pages of Terry Winograd, reference is made to a new, programmed in Common Lisp version. However, this does not have the same functional scope as the actual SHRDLU.

The name is based on the sequence of keys on a Linotype- typewriter.
