Shubra

Shubra (Arabic شبرا, also Shoubra or Shobra written ) is one of the largest districts of Cairo and administratively divided into three areas: Shubra, Road El Farag and El Sahel.

Word origin

Ironically, although Shubra has been immense since the last decades, the name originally comes from the Coptic word " Schobro ", which refers to a small village or region, as the area is known for its rich fields that are there in the immediate vicinity of the Nile. In Egypt, there are many neighborhoods, cities and villages that bear the name of Shubra, for example, the administrative area Shubra, which lies within the large district of Shubra, both but not allowed to be confused with the industrial suburb of Cairo Shubra El- Kheima. Of the lesser-known areas - especially villages - there are also various places that bear the name of Shubra, such as the Shubra - Bekhoum village, located about 75 minutes from Cairo. However, these areas can be identified quite, since the word " Shubra " only has a general meaning and not all of these regions in a literal sense completely describes.

Building

In the district of Shubra is the lot of Christians and Muslims attended Basilica of St. Therese, after the adjacent metro station Santa Teresa ( سانتا تريزا ) is named.
