Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park

The Olympic Rowing - Canoeing Park, Shunyi is a sports venue in Beijing's Shunyi District, which was built for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. On the race track, the competitions were held in rowing and canoe racing. In addition, the canoe slalom competitions and long-distance swimming were held on the premises. In the summer of 2008, the Paralympics rowing competitions were held in the Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park.

The construction work on the Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park Shunyi, about 13 km north-east of the international airport located, began in the first half of 2005, they ended on 28 July 2007. The heavily forested to the north park covers approximately 800 acres and in the southern part includes a regatta course with separate side channel for warm-up and a subsequent wild west water system. Thus, the Shunji Park is the date first Olympic stadiums which has both a race and as a whitewater course. Permanently there are 1200 seats. At the Olympic Games were further 25,800 spectators on temporary seats place, and there were a further 10,000 standing places.

There were problems during the Olympic Games in 2008 due to strong growth of algae. The algae, however, was removed with boats, so that the competitions were hardly affected, but some athletes competed in canoe racing with modified steering fins to prevent a hang of the algae and thus loss of time.

2007 took place in the Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park Shunji the Junior World Rowing Championships as a test competition instead. After the Olympics, the sports facility should be mainly used for swimming and as a park. However, it is no longer used today and has been left to themselves.
