Shut Down Vol II is the title of the fifth, published on March 2, 1964 album by the Beach Boys. The album was simultaneously also the fifth within 18 months. This first published after the advent of Beatlemania LP contains seven Brian Wilson compositions and per a post by Carl Wilson (Shut Down, Part II) and Dennis Wilson ( Denny 's Drums ) and two cover versions and a radio play -like interlude.
Genesis
The recordings date from January to February 1964.
On this album, Alan Jardine made his comeback with the beach boys, his " spare " David Lee Marks left the band and formed the band David & the Marksmen.
The suffix " Vol II "was necessary because the record company Capitol in 1963 a compilation entitled Shut Down released and had used the same Beach Boys song without their consent with. The group itself has an album Shut Down Volume I never published.
The album was released in a mono and a stereo version, produced it was Brian Wilson. It reached the top 13 of the U.S. Billboard charts and stayed there for 38 weeks.

Fun, Fun, Fun is a response to the rampant Beatlemania. The Beach Boys felt threatened by the British Invasion and tried to counter this. Mike Love wrote the lyrics to the song, which is about a young woman who makes the T -Bird jaunts her father until the father takes the vehicle back into custody. The song has a real background and refers to an affair of Dennis Wilson. The guitar playing was influenced by Chuck Berry and contains the typical surf -rock elements of the band .. The lead guitar was played by Glen Campbell. The single with the song reached # 5 on the Billboard charts.
Do not Worry Baby was originally written by Brian Wilson for the Ronettes. Their producer, Phil Spector, the song refused, however, because he thought he was too weak. The DJ Roger Christian Compatible Brian as a copywriter. He was not unhappy with Spector's rejection, because Spector would have probably replaced the original anyway. As a B- side of I Get Around - single the song reached number 24 of the singles chart.
In the Parkin ' Lot is another collaboration of Roger Christian and Brian Wilson.
" Cassius " Love vs.. " Sonny " Wilson is not a song but a discussion in the studio between Brian Wilson and Mike Love. The title alludes to the names of the two heavyweight boxer Cassius Clay (later Muhammad Ali called himself ) and Sonny Liston.
