The Shuya (Russian Шуя ) is a 170 km long river in the European part of Russia. She is a left and the largest tributary of the Njomda in the river system of the Volga.

Description

The Shuya rises in the southern Galitschen heights in the western center of Kostroma Oblast, near the settlement ( Possjolok ) Loparjowo. They first flows in an easterly direction through the wooded landscape. Shortly after it has passed through the village of boron, it pivots around to the south.

The Shuya is then pumped through a very sparsely populated forest area. The river is very winding on his entire life and has numerous oxbow lakes.

Hydrology and use

The Shuja is on average from November to April, frozen, to the breaking of the ice and snow melt following spring flooding. More flooding there in summer and autumn. The river was formerly used for timber rafting. He is not navigable.
