Si Racha

Province

Si Racha ( Thai: ศรีราชา, pronunciation: written [ sǐ ː ra ː ʰ a ː t͡ɕ ], also Sriracha or Sriraja ) is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Si Racha in the province of Chonburi. The Chonburi province is located in the eastern region of central Thailand.

The city ( Mueang thesaban ) Si Racha has about 19,440 inhabitants ( 2007). However, this is only the city core comprises, not the also densely populated surrounding areas.

Geography

Si Racha is located on the east coast on the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 80 kilometers (air line) southeast of the capital Bangkok, halfway between Chonburi and Pattaya.

Economy

The newly created in the nineties commercial port in Laem Chabang, together with the refinery Thaioil one of the most important economic factors for the district of Si Racha.

The city of Si Racha is known for its seafood, usually served with a spicy chili sauce, the nam phrik si racha ( Thai: น้ำพริก ศรีราชา ). Chili sauces with the name Sriracha sauce are now sold internationally and do not come in any case here.

Traffic

The modern eight lanes developed Bangkok - Chonburi Motorway connects both the coastal cities in the east (Eastern Seaboard ) with Bangkok as well as to the airport Utapao, the only airport in Thailand with direct flights to the south of the country without going through Bangkok. The older Thanon Sukhumvit ( Sukhumvit Road ) runs through the town Si Racha Chonburi and Pattaya, but is often due to the large volume of traffic jam at risk.

History

In 1945, Si Racha got the status of a small town ( thesaban tambon). In 1955 she was promoted to a city ( Mueang thesaban ).

Attractions

From here that most boats go over to the island of Ko Sichang ( เกาะ สี ชัง ).

North of the city, the temple Wat Ko Loi is on the same island ( Ko Loi - เกาะ ลอย ). The island is connected by a 1.5 km long road to the mainland. The temple summarizes Thai Buddhism and Chinese viewing and also shows a footprint of the Buddha. In addition to access to the temple Wat Ko Loi is the co- Loi Park.

The main attraction is probably the Si Racha Tiger Zoo, which shows more than 400 Bengal tigers and other animals. In October 2004, Tiger showed signs of H5N1 avian influenza in zoo and were infected with the influenza A H5N1 virus. Probably they were fed with infected chicken. More than 80 more tigers were killed as a precaution.

Sports

The residents club is FC Sriracha which discharges its home games in the Suzuki Stadium. The stadium was completed in late 2009 in the first phase. In the second phase of construction, the stadium received a grandstand of concrete. The stadium is located directly opposite the Co- Loi Park.
