Si Sawat District

Amphoe Si Sawat ( Thai อำเภอ ศรีสวัสดิ์ ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the Kanchanaburi province. The Kanchanaburi province is located in the western part of central Thailand, capital of the district about 180 km north- west of Bangkok.

Geography

The neighboring districts are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Ban Rai in the province of Uthai Thani, Amphoe Dan Chang, Suphanburi Province and Amphoe Nong Prue, Bo Phloi, Mueang Kanchanaburi, Sai Yok and Thong Pha Phum Kanchanaburi province.

History

The area was already inhabited thousands of years ago, as excavations in the cave Tham Ongbah showed.

Landscape

The district is dominated by the Si Nakharin reservoir. A portion of the reservoir is part of the National Park Srinakarin Khuean. The 140 -meter-high Si Nakharin Dam was completed in 1980. It dams the Kwae Yai to a 419 km ² lake. The dam was much criticized because it was built on the Si Sawat Fault Zone.

National Parks

The following national parks are located in Amphoe Si Sawat:

  • The Erawan National Park ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ เอราวัณ ) with the famous Erawan waterfall that falls down in seven cascades from a height of 1200 meters, is located in the south of the district.
  • The national park was established in 1981 Khuean Si Nakharin ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ เขื่อน ศรีนครินทร์ ) has a size of 1532 km ². Worth seeing are numerous waterfalls, hot springs and caves.

Management

The circle is divided into six subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 33 villages ( Muban ).

The small town ( thesaban tambon) Erawan ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เอราวัณ ) consists of parts of the tambon Tha Kradan.

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
