Si Songkhram District

Amphoe Si Songkhram ( Thai: อำเภอ ศรีสงคราม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Nakhon Phanom. The Nakhon Phanom Province is located in the northeastern region of Thailand, the so-called Isaan.

Geography

The county Si Songkhram is located in the north of the province, about 70 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital.

Neighbouring districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Na Thom the, Ban Phaeng, Tha Uthen, Phon Sawan and Na Wa in the province of Nakhon Phanom, and Amphoe Akat Amnuai the province of Sakon Nakhon.

The name of the county comes from its largest river, the Maenam Songkhram ( Songkhram River ).

History

The area of present-day county Si Songkhram was originally a part of Amphoe Tha Uthen. On April 1, 1926, but was separated and established as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) Akat Amnui ( อากาศอำนวย ). It initially consisted of the seven Tambon Na Wa, Ban Kha, Ban Siao, Sam Phong, Ban Waeng, Na Thom and Ban Phaeng. In 1939 the district was renamed in Si Songkhram, and on March 10, 1953 promoted to Amphoe.

Festivals

So Thang Bang Tradition ( ประเพณี โส้ ทั้ง บั้ง ) - Men and women of ethnic So this dance lead at cremations in order to guide the soul of the deceased to heaven. The So speak their own language, which sounds similar to the language of the Mon and Khmer. They settle in Amphoe Tha Uthen, Amphoe Na Kae, and Amphoe Si Songkhram.

  • Wat Aranyawiwake17.644889104.1240895 ( วัด อรัญ ญ วิเวก, Wat Luang Phu Tue วัดหลวง ปู่ ตื้อ ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) Thai forest tradition in Tambon Ban Kha. The temple is surrounded by a vast forest. Wat Aranyawiwake was the residence of the famous meditation teacher Luang Phu Tue, meditation techniques were taught by Phra Ajahn Bhuridatta. He is a small museum has been set up in honor after his death in the temple where his belongings are exhibited.

Management

Amphoe Si Songkhram is divided into nine municipalities ( tambon), which in turn in 106 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

Si Songkhram itself ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ศรีสงคราม ) has a small-town status ( thesaban tambon), it consists of parts of the tambon Si Songkhram.

In addition, there are nine " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
