Siah Armajani

Siah Armajani (born 10 July 1939 Tehran, Iran, lives in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, USA) is an Iranian- burly, American contemporary sculptor, film artist and architect. He describes himself as a "public artist", as an artist who works for the public space.

Life and work

Siah Armajani came in 1960 in the USA and became an American citizen. He studied philosophy, anthropology and mathematics.

Armajanis artistic claim of " public art " is based on the local conditions and possibilities and the communicative functions that can fulfill the work of art in a specific place and should be. He sits with his works, the problems of the design of environmental apart, and developed his art from a special analysis of the formal and socio-cultural conditions he encountered in the situation on the spot and.

At the invitation of Jean -Christophe Ammann Armajani 1987 created the installation " Sacco and Vanzetti Reading Room " for his first solo exhibition in Europe at the Kunsthalle Basel. The exhibition then traveled on to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the portico to Frankfurt am Main. 1990 Ammann acquired the installation for the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt am Main.

In 1972 he participated in organized by Harald Szeemann Documenta 5 in Kassel in the Department of Individual Mythologies: Film. He was at the Documenta 7 (1982) and the Documenta 8 and represented at Skulptur.Projekte in Münster in 1987 as an artist.

Siah Arman Jani designed the Olympic torch for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He designed numerous projects such as the Tower and the Bridge of New York Staten Iceland, Round Gazebo in Nice, France, and the Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

He is also known for his project to build houses entirely of feces in order to prove the fact that many houses " anyway shitty" are. ( "Most houses are shitty anyway, why not take it a step further " SA).
