Siarhei Rutenka [s ʲ ʌrɦej rutɛnkə ], originally white russian Сяргей Рутэнка / Syarhey Rutenka ( born August 29, 1981 in Minsk) is a Belarusian handball player, who had in the meantime Slovenian and Spanish citizen. He is 1.98 m tall.

Game position

Rutenka, who plays for Spanish club FC Barcelona and runs in the Belarusian national team, is mostly used in the left back, but can also play on back center of the room and on the circle.

Siarhei Rutenka began with the Handball Game in his hometown at Arkatron Minsk. Early on, he moved to RK Velenje in the Slovenian League and played there his first league games. In 2001, he joined the Slovenian Series champion RK Celje, with whom he 2000/ 01, 2001/ 02, 2002/ 03, 2003 /04 and 2004/ 05, the Slovenian Championship, 2001/ 02, 2002/ 03 and 2003/ 04 the Slovenian Cup, 2003/04 EHF Champions League and EHF 2004 club Championship won.

With these recommendations, as well as a section of about 7 goals / game in 2005 he moved to the Spanish league ASOBAL BM Ciudad Real. Here he won the 2006 / 07, 2007/ 08 and 2008/ 09, the Spanish Championship, 2005/ 06, 2006/ 07 and 2007 /08 Copa ASOBAL, 2005/ 06, 2007/ 08 and 2008/09 EHF Champions League and in 2005 / 06 and 2006 /07 EHF club Championship. In the season 2006/ 07 Rutenka was always plagued by injuries, so that BM Ciudad Real at times was about to commit to his position one more player. In the summer of 2009, he finally left Ciudad Real, and plays since the league rivals FC Barcelona. With Barcelona he won the 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012 /13 Championship, and the 2010/11 EHF Champions League. As José Javier Hombrados, Mikhail Ivanovich Jakimowitsch and Mateo Garralda he has won with three different clubs, the EHF Champions League.

National

Siarhei Rutenka had already denied some caps for the Belarusian national team. In 2004 he participated in the Slovenian citizenship and denied 56 caps for the Slovenian national team. He participated in the 2004 Olympic Games and at the 2005 World Championships, where he was fourth- best scorer. At the European Championship 2006, he was top scorer, while his team was only ranked 8. Although Rutenka had suffered a muscle tear in his left thigh in the club championship in 2006/ 07 in Cologne, doctors got him even up to the Handball World Cup 2007 in Germany fit again. However, he popped off completely and finished with Slovenia only a disappointing 10th place.

In January 2008 Rutenka received the Spanish citizenship. For this reason, Rutenka last held away from the Slovenian national team and also did not participate in the European Handball Championship in 2008 partly in Norway.

Since October 2010, he again has the Belarusian citizenship. With Belarus, he participated in the World Cup in 2013 and the European Championships in 2014.

His younger brother Dzianis (* 1986) is also Belarusian handball player.
