Sibay

Sibai ( Bashkir and Russian Сибай ) with 62 763 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) one of the larger cities in the southern Russian republic of Bashkortostan.

Location

The city lies at the southern Ural Mountains, near the border of Bashkortostan to Chelyabinsk Oblast, and is about 460 km from the capital Ufa Republic and 95 kilometers from the city of Magnitogorsk. The nearest town is 25 km away Baimak.

History

Sibai originated from the year 1938 and is therefore a relatively young city. Initially it was a working class neighborhood, which emerged from the village Starossibajewo and belonged to an inferred near copper deposit. 1955 was granted the city rights Sibai, why the 50th anniversary of the city was celebrated in 2005.

Economy and Transport

An important operation in Sibai is the copper and sulfur combine that handles the pumped around the city copper ore. There are also companies in the woodworking industry, light and food industries.

Sibai is on a street of Ufa to Magnitogorsk as well as on a railway line, which connects the city with Magnitogorsk.
