Sibet Attena

Sibet Attena, Latin also: Sibo, (* 1425, † November 8, 1473 ) was an East Frisian chieftain. He was a son of Sibet of Dornum ( olde Sibet ) ( † 1433 ) and Frouwa of Manslagt, a daughter of Enno Cirksenas.

From his father he inherited the Osterburg in Dornum. About his first wife, Onna by Stedesdorf, daughter of the Hero Omken Elder, he inherited also Stedesdorf 1447 and got 1454 as the nephew and loyal follower of Ulrich Cirksenas the rights Esen. On his maternal heritage in Manslagt he renounced it. Also in 1454, he supported Ulrich Cirksenas against fir Kankena in Witt mouth, occupied the local castle and drove him away. Seven years later, he found him with his right hand into Dornum. Sibet Attena since 1455 chief called himself already to Esen, Stedesdorf and Witt mouth. This means that the Harlingerland concretized as the rule territory.

After Onna had died of Stedesdorf 1464, he married his second wife Margaret Westerwold.

Sibet 1464 was present at the award ceremony of the Imperial County to Ulrich Cirksenas in the guest house church at Emden and was knighted on this occasion.

After his death it was erected in 1473 in the church of Esen, today's St. Magnus Church, a magnificent sandstone sarcophagus.
