Sibylle of Baden

Sibylle von Baden (* April 26, 1485; † July 10, 1518 in Willstaett ) was a Princess of Baden and titular Margrave of Baden. She was a daughter of Margrave Christoph I and Countess Ottilie von Katzenelenbogen, and granddaughter of Philip of Katzenelenbogen.

Marriage

Sibylle von Baden married on January 24, 1505 Count Philip III. of Hanau- Lichtenberg ( * October 18, 1482, † May 15 1538 ). She brought a dowry of 5000 fl into the marriage.

The altar Babenhausen

The altar in the Church of St. Nicholas in Babenhausen is a foundation of the Margravine Sibylle von Baden: After she had only daughters brought the world to 1513, she vowed in the case of the birth of a son to donate an altar. The case then came in with the birth of the heir Philip 1514.

The altar is one of the important central Rhenish art works of this period. The artist is unknown. Sibyl sat down with this foundation at the same time themselves and their family monument. The left wing of the altar shows, among other things, the Blessed Bernhard II of Baden, who was famous for his pious life change and was beatified in the 18th century. He was a brother of her grandfather.

Demise

Margravine Sibylle died on July 10, 1518 and was in the family burial of the Count of Hanau- Lichtenberg, in the Church of St. Nicholas buried in Babenhausen, as well as later her husband.
