The lateral spot iguanas ( Uta ) is a genus belonging to the iguana -like Phrynosomatidae, which mainly inhabit the sandy- rocky dry areas of North America.

Species

The first description of the lateral spot iguanas upon in 1862 by the zoologist Baird and Gerard in the Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences, the type species as described and at the same time first species of the genus Uta the Commons lateral spot Iguana ( Uta stansburiana ). The naming of the genus Uta performed according to the state of Utah, in which the animal was discovered.
