Sideboard

A sideboard, kitchen buffet or sideboard is a half-height, two - or mehrtüriges piece of furniture for storage of tablecloths and tableware and a work space for serving of food. A kitchen buffet and a sideboard in Austria are executed in full. The upper structure stands on pedestals above the free dresser.

An English synonym is a sideboard or credenza desk.

History

Often called a buffet sideboard, and vice versa. However, there is historically a significant difference in the development of these two furniture. The buffet has evolved from the chest and a workbench has evolved from the table. Especially with antiques, you can still clearly the differences of development, starting with the late Gothic period, see. So sideboards were often freely in space and are decorated on all sides. Buffets were even then on the wall and are not decorated at the back.
