Sidewise Award for Alternate History

The Sidewise Award for alternate history was created in 1995 to annually recognize the best novels and stories this subject area.

The name of the price comes from the short story published in 1934 Sidewise in Time by Murray Leinster, in which a strange storm causes different parts of the earth swap space with their equivalents from other timelines.

Founders have been Robert Schmunk, Evelyn Leeper and Steven H Silver, which also still act as jurors. Over the years, the jury has been extended to eight people (including from the UK and South Africa).

Each year, two awards will be presented at Worldcon, The Short Form Award is works with less than 60,000 words in length, while The Long Form Award works with more than 60,000 words length applies ( regardless of whether they are individual works or entire series). In the discretion of the judges, it lies to honor a person or a work with the Special Achievement Award; here can be appreciated, which appeared prior to the introduction of Sidewise Awards.
