Sidney is the easternmost town in the state of Montana (Montana 's Sunrise City). It is the county seat ( county seat ) of Richland County and has about 5,000 inhabitants.

History

When 1870 first settlers settled in the area of the present town, and 17 years later in 1887 the first school built, also a post station was to be built, but only if the city had received a name. In the house of the magistrate a boy named Sidney Walters, the latter had very closed to his heart lived. When editing the founding documents he decided that Sidney was also a good name for the new city. Year of foundation of the city is therefore 1888. 1911 the city was then officially registered.

By 1914, Sidney was part of Dawson County, through a referendum then came the Richland County with Sidney as the county seat. The town grew rapidly and soon a new school (1916 ) was needed and in 1936 even a high school was completed. 1961 committed the inhabitants a wide 50 years celebration.

Economy

Beginning of the 80s there was an oil boom that transformed the shift in the economy from agriculture to industry. In addition to the frequently occurring in Montana precious metals gold, silver and copper there are in the area of Sidney some agate deposits, which are also used commercially.
