Sidney Shapiro

Sidney Shapiro (Chinese name: Shā Bólǐ沙博 理; born December 23, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an author and translator who was born in the U.S. and since 1947 has lived in China.

Biography

Sidney Shapiro comes from a Jewish family. He learned during the Second World War in the U.S. Army Chinese and studied law. He came to Shanghai in 1947, where he met his future wife Fengzi, an actress and supporter of the Communist Party of China, who led an illegal magazine.

Sidney Shapiro worked after the founding of the People 's Republic of China for almost fifty years as a writer and translator for the publishing Foreign Languages ​​Press in Beijing. His most famous work is Outlaws of the Marsh, a translation of the famous Chinese novel Shui hu zhuan, known in German under the title The Outlaws of Liang Shan - moor.
