Siege of Antwerp (1832)

The Siege of Antwerp from 15 November to 24 December 1832, the last military action was a result of the Belgian Revolution. The area occupied by Dutch troops citadel of Antwerp was occupied by French troops.

Prehistory

In the Belgian Revolution of 1830, the southern parts of the Netherlands seceded and formed the new Belgian state. 1831 tried the Netherlands in the " ten-day campaign " again to gain mastery in Belgium. After initial successes (including the conquest of Antwerp on August 4, 1831), the Belgians came a French army under Marshal Gérard for help and the Dutch had to withdraw. In the citadel of Antwerp, however, remained Dutch troops.

The Siege

The siege was conducted on the French side of the fortress experts François Nicolas Benoît Haxo, he stood on the Dutch side, General David Hendrik Chassé opposite. During the siege of heavy mortars were used. On December 24, there were the Dutch, 4600 soldiers went into captivity.
