Siegfried Fink

Siegfried Fink ( born February 8, 1928 in Zerbst / Anhalt, † May 3, 2006 in Würzburg ) was a German drummer and composer. He is a major force for the development of percussion in Germany.

Life

Siegfried Fink studied from 1948 to 1951 at the Academy of Music in Weimar with Alfred Wagner timpani / percussion and Helmut Riethmueller composition. About orchestral and teaching positions in Weimar, Magdeburg, Lübeck and Hannover he came in 1965 as a lecturer for timpani / percussion to the then Bavarian State Conservatory of Music in Würzburg. 1974 he was appointed professor at the newly founded University of Music Würzburg, where he, the renowned " studio for percussion " led until 1993.

Under his leadership, his percussive master blacksmith developed in Würzburg a magnet for percussionists from around the world. During his thirty years of high school work more than 100 students from all over the country went through its educational, training and master classes. He realized his ideas for reorientation of the methodology and percussion percussion music of the 20th century and acted thus among experts titled " Percussion Pope " a.

For his artistic and musical education achievements, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, the Honorary Diploma of the College of Music of Barcelona, an honorary doctorate from the State Music Academy of Sofia, the Culture Prize of the city of Würzburg, and in 2003 as an outstanding tribute to his life's work in the percussion pedagogy the " Lifetime Achievement in Education Award" from the Percussive Arts Society (USA).

More than 20 records recordings document his work as a concert drummer of international renown. On numerous other recordings Siegfried Fink resigns as director and conductor of various ensembles in appearance, he served as a mentor and encouraged.

As an important source of inspiration, he founded percussion series at several European music publishers and thus became one of the most published percussionists in the world. Under his leadership, the first curriculum for percussion instruments of the Association of German Music Schools was born. He did help build the percussion department at the vocational schools of Music, supported in cooperation with instrument manufacturers, the establishment of training institutions such as the International Society for music education training and gave start-up assistance in the establishment of the degree course in music therapy in Heidelberg.

By pioneering works by more than 160 works, he set new standards in the field of study and concert literature. Under the compositional focus of his work on the emancipation of the tone and the rhythmic structure, the range of his work of works for solo percussion and percussion ensembles ranging chamber music to ballet and film music.

Through its sponsorship of his students won prizes in national and international competitions. Many of his former students work as an internationally known Soloperkussionisten or solid commitment as a solo timpanist or percussionist in the orchestra, as music educators impart their expertise in music schools, vocational schools, conservatories or as professors at universities and university facilities.

On 3 May 2006 Siegfried Fink died in his hometown of Würzburg.

His work is continued today by his daughter Cornelia C.Fink.
