Siegfried Ochs

Siegfried Ochs ( born April 19, 1858 in Frankfurt am Main, † February 6, 1929 in Berlin) was a German choral conductor and composer. As a composer, he also used the pseudonym Diego fisherman.

Life

Ochs studied at the University of Heidelberg chemistry, however, was already working the way at the local theater as a rehearsal pianist and decorative painter. In 1878 he went Academic University for performing musical art, which was then under the rectorship of Joseph Joachim ( 1831-1907 ) at the Berlin Royal. He is also a student of Friedrich Kiel. In 1882 he founded the Berlin Philharmonic Choir, which he directed until his death. 1920, the choir was disbanded for financial reasons and continued as the choir of the University of Music, at the ox was a teacher.

During the Third Reich the works of Siegfried Ochs Jews were forbidden.

He composed a comic opera, choirs, duets, songs. His most famous works are the song " Thank You, Lord " and the parody of 14 well-known composers, including Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner, by merging one of its well-known works with the folksong If a bird flew. As a performer

  • In the years 1927-1928 produced some recordings with the Philharmonic Choir for Electrola. Were recorded, among other works of Heinrich Schütz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Handel and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his own choruses.
