Siegfried Wentz

Siegfried " Siggi " Wentz ( born March 7, 1960 in Röthenbach at Sankt Wolfgang ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the Federal Republic - belonged in the 1980s, a world leader in the decathlon.

Life

He grew up in Lorch and began with 13 years with the Athletics. In 1978 he became German youth champion in the five-and ten battle. The following year, Wentz was European Junior Champion in the decathlon in Bydgoszcz. In 1982 he was in the adult area German vice-champion and qualified for the European Championships in Athens. He lay there in third place until he failed the entrance height in the pole vault. In the end he was Twentieth with 7284 points.

On June 5, 1983, he scored in Filderstadt- Bernhausen with 8762 points, his personal best, with which he is number twelve of the eternal world leaderboard (as of 30 December 2012). Shortly thereafter, he became the first German champion and in Helsinki, he won at the World Championships with 8478 points, the bronze medal. He also won bronze at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles ( 8412 points, individual performances: 10.99 s - 7.11 m - 15.87 m - 2.09 m - 47.78 s - 14.35 s - 46 60 m - 4.50 m - 67.68 m - 4:33,96 min).

1985 Wentz was the second time German champion in the decathlon. The following year he competed in the German Championships in the 110- meter hurdles and won with a personal best of 13.76 seconds. At the European Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart, he was third ( 8676 points). A year later, Wentz won the silver medal with 8461 points at the World Championships in Rome. His last major international competition was at the European Championships in 1990 in Split where he ( 7810 points ) finished twelfth.

Siegfried Wentz launched for the LG Staufen and the USC Mainz. In its competition time he weighed in at 1.93 m Height 93 kg.

In addition to his sports career Siegfried Wentz studied medicine in Mainz. He was a senior physician in Frankfurt and was constructed in 2000, chief physician of the Schlüsselbad Clinic in Bad Peterstal (Black Forest).
