Siegfried Zielinski

Siegfried Zielinski (* 1951) media theorist at the University of the Arts ( University of Arts ) in Berlin with a focus on archeology and Variantology of the arts and the media; Michel Foucault professor at the EGS in Saas Fee; Head of Vilém Flusser - Archive at the University of Arts Berlin.

Life

Zielinski studied mainly at the Institute of the Austrian machine manufacturer and Radio theorist Friedrich Knilli at the Technical University (TU) Berlin, whose media studies department from the " Institute for Language in the technical age " ( SPRAY ) emerged. In the early 1970s he wrote his first media-related articles as editor of the " Marburger leaves ". In 1979, he turned as a writer and director of the documentary 16 mm film " Responses to HOLOCAUST in Western Germany", with whom he traveled through the United States. In the same year he graduated with a thesis on " Jew Suss " director Veit Harlan from which was published in 1981 as his first monograph. In the 1980s he worked as a freelance writer before he and Friedrich Knilli installed in 1982 the first degree program of Media Studies and Media Consulting at the TU Berlin.

Zielinski 1989 was appointed professor of "Audio Vision" at the University of Salzburg. Installed with Peter Lilienthal, Dietmar Kamper, Eckhart and other stone and he designed until 1994, the European Summer Academy of Film and Media Arts at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1993 he was appointed professor of communications and media studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, appointed in 1994 to the founding rector, elected its first rector in 1999. At the KHM he established much an undergraduate degree in the relationship between art, science and technology. From 1995 to 1999 he created and co-chaired by Nils Röller in Cologne Cinématheque the festival Digital. Since 2002, Zielinski is involved in teaching and research again. Since 2005 he built under the title Variantology on a loose international network that mondial dedicated to the study of deep time relations between the arts, sciences and technologies.

Siegfried Zielinski is a full member of the North Rhine- Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Academy of Arts in Berlin, the European Film Academy (EFA ), the Magic Lantern Society of Great Britain and honorary senator of the Institute for Media Archeology Hainburg ( Austria ).
