Sieglinde Ahrens

Sieglinde Ahrens ( born February 19, 1936 in Berlin ) is a German organist and high school teacher.

Career

Ahrens studied at the Berlin Academy of Music with Boris Blacher (composition) and her father, the composer and organist Joseph Ahrens (organ, improvisation and Gregorian chant ). She graduated in 1958 with the organ diploma with honors. Further studies took her to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris with Darius Milhaud and Olivier Messiaen, they got there in 1959 the " Premier Prix" in Olivier Messiaen class.

From 1950 to 1956 she worked as an organist at the Salvator Church in Berlin. In 1962 she was appointed as a lecturer in organ at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen; In 1970 she was appointed professor of organ at the same university. In 1964 she was awarded the Prize of North Rhine- Westphalia for music.

Sieglinde Ahrens was known for her concerts at home and abroad as well as by radio and CD recordings, including first recordings of the organ works of Joseph Ahrens and Petr Eben.
