Siegmund Nimsgern

Siegmund Nimsgern (born 14 January 1940 in Sankt Wendel, Saarland ) is an internationally known German opera and concert singer.

Biography

After graduating from high school (1960 ) in St. Ingbert Nimsgern studied at the Hochschule für Musik Saar singing and music education, with Professors Sibylle fox, Jakob Stämpfli and Paul Lohmann.

Nimsgern made ​​his debut at the Saarland State Theater in 1967 1971 he moved to Dusseldorf and Duisburg to the German Opera on the Rhine.; from there he started his international opera career. He was a baritone and Others at La Scala, Covent Garden (London), at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Opéra de Paris or the Vienna State Opera. 1983-1987 he sang at Bayreuth Wotan in overseen by Georg Solti, Peter Schneider and Peter Hall production of the Nibelung ring.

He has held several visiting professorships, including at the Mozarteum in Salzburg ( 1997-98 ). In addition, he was a professor at the University of the Saarland for music and theater.

He lives with his family in St. Ingbert. His son is the musical composer Frank Nimsgern.
