Sien, Germany

Sien is a municipality in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Herrnstein.

Geography

Sien is between Idar -Oberstein and Lauterecken northeast of the Baumholder military training area.

History

The first written mention of the name was in 1128 as Sinede. Since 1112 the place was part of the county Veldenz. In the 13th century, the lordship was divided. One half belonged to Earl Wild, the other half by repeatedly changing ownership from 1431, the Lords of SICKINGEN. 1765 ended the period of Kondominats and Rhodesia was under complete Johann XI.
