Siesta Key is an island off the western coast of the U.S. state of Florida in the United States of America. Siesta Key is situated between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Part of the island is within the urban area of ​​Sarasota, but most of it in Sarasota County. The island was originally named Sarasota Key known to her European cartographers gave in their exploration of the territory in 1513. In the course of opening up the tourist island it was renamed in the 1920s in Siesta Key.

The American professor and author Stephen Leatherman ( " Dr. Beach " ) chose the beach of Siesta Key in 2011 for the most beautiful sandy beach in America.

Siesta Key was in the year 1987 recipient of the " World's Finest, Whitest Sand" price of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. The prize was awarded in particular for the existing more than 99% of quartz sand beach.
