Sigean

Sigean ( Occitan: Sijan ) is a municipality with 5426 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in France. It is situated in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. Sigean located in the Corbières maritimes mentioned landscape on the shores of Lake lagoon Etang de Bages et de Sigean.

Economy

Part of the agricultural land is used for growing grapes and vineyards are located within the protected designation of origin Corbières. In addition, the wines may be marketed under the name of the country wine Vin de Pays des Coteaux du Littoral Audois. The municipality is located in the Regional Natural Park Narbonnaise en Méditerranée.

Policy

Sigean is the capital of the eponymous canton Sigean. The municipality is part of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes Corbières en Méditerranée.
