K. K. Sigma (Japanese株式会社 シグマ, Kabushiki - gaisha Shiguma, Eng. Sigma Corporation) is a Japanese manufacturer of lenses, digital cameras and flash units.

All Sigma products are manufactured in the company's own Aizu factory in Bandai, Fukushima, Japan. In addition to the company's headquarters in Tokyo Sigma has offices in the U.S., Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, France, England and the Netherlands.

A special technical feature of digital cameras from Sigma is to use the Foveon X3 image sensor. The company also manufactures products for compatible cameras from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic.

History

SIGMA was established on September 9, 1961 by Michihiro Yamaki in Tokyo. 1979 under the name SIGMA ( Germany ) GmbH was founded a German subsidiary in Rödermark, between Frankfurt and Darmstadt.

Products

Sigma produces interchangeable lenses for camera systems from different manufacturers. In this case, about four thousand lenses are manufactured in our own factory in Aizu daily. Sigma also produces digital SLR cameras with proprietary Sigma SA lens mount. Since 2008, Sigma DP1 offers the first manufacturer to a digital compact camera with a large image sensor in APS -C format. The digital cameras are equipped with the Foveon X3 image sensor; this sensor was otherwise have hardly use.

Sigma SD1 Merrill

The Sigma SD1 Merrill is a digital SLR camera with 46 megapixel effective (4800 × 3200 × 3 layers) and 44 receiving megapixel ( 4,704 × 3,136 × 3 layers). The camera is equipped with a Foveon X3 image sensor, which - not be guaranteed only subtle color differences, but also of each image to obtain a three-dimensional character - according to the manufacturer.

Since September 2013, customers can get lenses the Contemporary, Art and Sports product line converted to a different port system under the " Connection - exchange service ."
