Signals Intelligence Service

Signals Intelligence Service - abbreviated SIS - was the name given to a secret U.S. military unit which was entrusted primarily in World War II with the deciphering enemy messages. It was located in the building Arlington Hall in Arlington, Virginia.

The Department was founded in April 1930 by the cryptologist William F. Friedman, together with the ( then unknown ) math teachers Frank Rowlett, Abraham and Solomon Kullback Sinkov and gradually expanded.

In addition to the decryption of hostile intelligence of the SIS was responsible later for encryption own military news of the U.S. armed forces.
