Sigurd II of Norway

Sigurd II Haraldsson (* 1133, † June 10, 1155 ), called because of his disfigured mouth, " Sigurd munn ", was from 1136 to 1155 alongside his brother Inge Krogrygg King of Norway. From 1142 his brother Øystein nor was added. He was the illegitimate son of Harald Gille and his concubine Torah Guttormsdottir.

He grew up in Trøndelag and has been proclaimed the age of four to the king after his father was killed in 1136 in bed. It was the time of the Norwegian civil war.

At the beginning of his time as king, he had to defend the blind, who in turn claimed the kingship itself against its competitors Slembe Sigurd and Magnus. Sigurd Slembe claimed to be an illegitimate son of Magnus berføtt. Magnus, Harald Gille had to leave mutilate, was the illegitimate son of Sigurd Jorsalfari. The two were killed in 1139 but then in the Battle of Holmengrå. The three brothers saw themselves as children first well. During the tutelage of the Imperial Council came to tensions. They were probably due to the respective counselors who pursued their house power interests through their respective kings. 1153 the Archdiocese of Nidaros was created by Cardinal Breakspeare.

After the departure of Cardinal Breakspeare towards Sweden, the tensions between the kings increased dramatically. King Inge Krogrygg learned of a plan of his Mitkönige to depose him in winter 1154/1155 on the occasion of settlement negotiations. This led him to a pre-emptive strike against Sigurd in summer 1155 in Bergen. Sigurd was ambushed and killed.
