Sigurd Markusfostre

Sigurd Sigurdsson Markusfostre ( * at least 1155, when his father was killed, † September 29, 1163 in Gravdal (in today's Bergen) ) was a Norwegian anti-king. His parents were King Sigurd Munn (ca. 1132-1155 ).

He was king of the rebels who had Håkon Herdebrei support, but was captured by the people around Erling Skakke and beheaded.

Sigurd was raised when Markus of Skog nobles in Ringsaker in Hedmark. After Herdebrei Håkon was killed in 1162, the rest of his men was under the command of Jarl Sigurd Hallvardsson Markus of Skog, who was a friend of Jarl Sigurd. There, they called Sigurd Markusfostre from the king, while Jarl Sigurd led the activities.

In the fall of 1162 and the following winter, King Sigurd held with his entourage on in Viken and Opland. They had to maintain a large army and soon had supply problems. Erling Skakke sat in Tønsberg with a great team ready to attack. Heimskringla reported that the opportunity came in February 1163. Fagrskinna other hand, these events moved on a year later. As the two armies met each other in the northwest of Tønsberg Re. In this battle, Jarl Sigurd fell, and the rest of the men fled into the woods. Markus and King Sigurd could get some ships in Vik and had gone to the east to Light Kong. Thither also went Erling Skakke. King Sigurd and his men searched the far south on Rambergsvallen refuge. There they were supported by the population, and Erling was content to take away their ships. Without ships they decided to go by land to Nidaros. There they were well received, and Sigurd was proclaimed on the Øyrating king. They had in the summer of 1163 large inlet receiving ships and sailed from there to the south. On September 29, they were surprised by a part of Erling Skakkes army in front of mountains. Mark and Sigurd were captured. Sigurd was there beheaded, while Markus was suspended in Kvarven, today a part of Bergen. The rest of the team broke up. After that happened Fagrskinna 1164.

Sigurd was a king's son, the son of Erling Magnus Erlingsson Skakkes not, but could establish its Königswürdigkeit only about his mother Kristin, who was a daughter of the King Jórsalafari. Therefore, Erling Sigurd had to kill to eliminate the serious competition for his son.

Sigurd was never able to exercise his royal office, since he was only 10 years old.
