Sigurd Ottovich Schmidt

Sigurd Schmidt Otto Malevich (Russian Сигурд Оттович Шмидт; born May 15, 1922 in Moscow, † May 22, 2013 ) was a Russian historian and ethnographer.

He was a son of Otto Schmidt Yulievich. He graduated in 1944, the historical faculty of Moscow University, and taught from 1949 at the local historical archives (now part of the Russian State University for the Humanities ) ( Российский государственный гуманитарный университет ) and received his doctorate in 1965.

From 1968 to 2006 he was chairman of the Archäographischen Commission ( Археографические комиссии ). In 1992 he was co-founder of the Russian Academy of Education and in 1997 foreign member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
