Siheung

Siheung ( Kor. 시흥 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi -do. It is bordered to the north by Incheon and Bucheon, to the east by Gwangmyeong and Anyang and Ansan to the south.

During the Three Kingdoms period, the area was Siheungs part of the Baekje Kingdom. In 475 it was conquered by the Goguryeo Dynasty.

Siheung received its current administrative form on 1 January 1989, when the old area was divided into the cities of present-day Siheung, Gunpo and Uiwang. At that time Siheung had only 93,000 inhabitants. This number has since more than quadrupled, justified by its proximity to Seoul. Siheung also includes two planned cities, Sihwa and Wolgot New City, who were founded in the 1990s. A large industrial area also belongs to the city.

For administrative area includes the island Oido and the port Wolgot. The Soraesan is also located here.
