Siheyuan

Siheyuan (Chinese四合院, Pinyin Siheyuan ) is a Chinese hutong courtyard, which is surrounded on all four cardinal directions of houses. Literally, Siheyuan an enclosed courtyard of four sides, so a four-sided.

The streets and alleys of such existing residential areas are called Hutong. The goal of most Siheyuan opens to the south. Therefore, the hutongs usually run from east to west.
