Sikhio District
Amphoe Sikhio ( in Thai: อำเภอ สีคิ้ว ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) of Nakhon Ratchasima. The Nakhon Ratchasima province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, the so-called Isaan.
Geography
Sikhio located about 45 kilometers from the provincial capital, in the Dong Phaya Yen - mountains.
The neighboring districts are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Dan Khun Thot, the, Sung Noen and Pak Chong Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Amphoe Muak Lek Saraburi Province and Amphoe Lam Sonthi of Lopburi Province.
History
Sikhio was known as Mueang Nakhon Chantuek in earlier times. She was a border town between the plain of the Chao Phraya river, which was inhabited by the Thai and the Khorat Plateau, which was dominated by the Lao. There is no record of its foundation. The administration was in Ban Chantuek, where today is located the station of Chantuek. Nakhon Chantuek was ruled directly by the Thai central government.
On April 1, 1898, was one of Amphoe Nakhon Ratchasima. The administration building was moved in 1901 to Ban Nong Bua, and 1906 turn to Ban Sikhio. In both cases, was reported as claiming that the previous area is malaria - infested.
In 1939, the county finally got its present name Sikhio.
Management
Amphoe Sikhio is divided into 12 tambon ( communes), which in turn together hold 169 villages ( Muban ).
There is a city ( Mueang thesaban ) in the district:
- Sikhio consists of parts of tambon Sikhio and Mittraphab.
In addition, there are four small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:
- Lad Bua Khao ( เทศบาล ตำบล ลาด บัวขาว ) consists of parts of the Tambon Lad Bua Khao,
- Khlong Phai ( เทศบาล ตำบล คลอง ไผ่ ) consists of parts of the tambon Khlong Phai,
- Mueang Sikhio ( เทศบาล เมือง สีคิ้ว ) consists of parts of the tambon Sikhio,
- Nong Nam Sai ( เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง น้ำ ใส ) consists of the whole tambon Nong Nam Sai.
In addition, there are ten " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

South of the city lies on the Friendship Highway Sikhio the high security prison Klong Pai.
