Sikorsky Aircraft

The Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is a U.S. company in Stratford (Connecticut), the helicopters, drones and aircraft manufactures.

History

Founder was Igor Ivanovich Sikorski from Ukraine, born in 1889 in Kiev. He designed a series of aircraft that have been used, among others, on the Russian side in the First World War. After the October Revolution he traveled in 1919 to study work in the United States, decided to remain as emigrants there and founded the company in 1923. In the 1930s produced some well-known aircraft designs, such as the Sikorsky S- 42 Pan Am began in her famous Clipper series. Sikorski then focused end of the 1930s to the design of helicopters and helicopter regarded as the true pioneer; among other things, is the widespread tail rotor configuration much back to him.

The company was founded in 1929 part of the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation. Since the destruction of the holding company in 1934, Sikorsky is part of United Technologies Corporation ( UTC) and is still one of the leading manufacturers of helicopters.

Products

The company manufactures products for the civilian ( eg, S -92, S -76) and military (eg, UH -60 Black Hawk, CH -53 Stallion) area. Latest model of this series is the CH -53K for the U.S. Marine Corps. The commissioning is to take place here in 2015. After the purchase of Schweizer Aircraft Corporation in 2004 Sikorsky also manufactures aircraft again. In February 2011, Sikorsky announced it has acquired shares in the company Eclipse Aviation to 500 accommodate the production of the Very Light Jet Eclipse again.
