Silanus, Sardinia

Silanus is located in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia, about 13 km east from Macomer near the state road SS 129 The village at the foot of Monte Arbo has 2181 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and is 432 m above sea level.

Other attractions in the town and its surroundings are:

  • The Cistercian church of San Lorenzo in the 12th century. In his garden there are five Baityloi, originating from a giant grave nearby.
  • Of lying to the east of the town 12.6 m high Nuraghe Madrone with two intact overlying Kragkuppeln.
  • Unprecedented in Sardinia, the church of Santa Sarbana Situated on the SS 129 (also known as Santa Sabina) from the 11th century next to the homonymous Nuraghe. It consists of a mixture of Byzantine and Romanesque younger forms. The tripartite elevation reminiscent of early Christian Taufkirchen affiliiertem Consignatorium and Vestianum. The right side room was reconstructed in 1935, the church was renovated in the 1990s. Excavations revealed no older finds.

There are traces of three outgoing giants graves, the Nuraghe Ortu and the fountain sanctuary di Cherchizzo on site. The basaltic plateau south of Silanus is rich in interesting but hard -to-find Nuraghe ( Corbus, Ponte, S'Ulivera and Cuba with five Baityloi in the environment ).
