BWf1

The Silay is the northernmost volcano on the island of Negros, he located 28 kilometers on the east of Silay City in Marapara mountains of the province of Negros Occidental in the Philippines.

The stratovolcano reaches a height of 1,510 meters above sea level, its base diameter is given as 20 km. The rock of the volcano is characterized as basaltic andesite. It has a 3.5 km wide caldera and is classified as an active volcano in the Holocene, but there are no known eruptions of Silay.

The Malisbog - Solfatara field testifies to fumarolischer activity of the volcano and has large sulfur deposits. For this reason, the Silay is classified as " potentially active".

The Silay is one of the core zones of the Northern Negros Natural Park, where many endangered endemic species such as the Visayan Warty Pig (Sus cebifrons ) and the Prince Alfred deer (Cervus alfredi ) live.
