Silberhorn

The Silberhorn is a 3695 m high pyramid-shaped mountain in the Jungfrau massif (Bernese Oberland). Because of its distinctive shape is the Silberhorn one of the most photographed of the Bernese Oberland. It is located north- west of the summit of the Jungfrau.

The first ascent of the silver horn succeeded on August 4, 1863 by Edmund Fellberg and Karl Baedeker, the son of the founder of the publishing house Karl Baedeker. They were accompanied by the Grinder Walder leaders Peter Michel, Hans Baumann and Peter Inäbnit. The first climb on the northwest ( Hornby ridge ) achieved by the two Englishmen James John Hornby and Thomas Henry Philpot together with local guides Christian Almer, Ulrich Almer, John Bishop and Christian Lauener.

In the immediate vicinity of the silver horn, the Silberhorn hut ( 2663 m) and the red valley cottage located ( 2755 m).

The 2003 newly built in the Lauberhorn downhill jump is called Silberhorn jump, because the camera setting in televised shows the racers during the jump in front of the Silberhorn.
