Sildajazz

Sildajazz is a jazz festival in situated on the west coast of Norway Haugesund. It is held annually in mid-August. The name of the festival comes from the emergence of Haugesund as a transshipment point for fishermen mid-19th century ago ( " sild " is the Norwegian word for herring ).

The festival took place in 1987 for the first time instead of four bands. Meanwhile, every year about 350 artists take part in about 70 bands and orchestras and play during the five-day festival around 180 concerts. On 21 Festival 2007, more than 50,000 spectators were present.
