Silicon Integrated Systems

Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS ) is a Taiwanese company that develops many kinds of ICs as controller chips for Ethernet, Wi-Fi and S- ATA and SoCs. Long SiS was primarily known as a manufacturer of chipsets for PCs. Previously also also graphics chips have been developed, but this division was spun off as XGI Technology Inc..

History

SiS was founded in February 1987 in Taiwan. In 1990, the company presented its first chipset for the 80386. In 1992, the opening of a subsidiary in the USA, which was disbanded early 2008. Since August 1997 SiS will be officially listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. In June 2003, the graphics division was spun off as XGI Technology Inc..

SiS was indeed founded as a fabless company, in the late 1990s but it established its own manufacturing in Taiwan. After several confrontations with UMC this early 2003 took over control of SiS and forced the sale of the new plant at UMC. Since SiS acts again as a fabless company.

In August 2011, SiS announced to abandon the business of PC chipsets and in the future to focus on chips for TVs, multimedia set -top boxes and touchscreen devices.
