Silke Renk

Silke Renk, married Silke Lange, (* June 30, 1967 in cross- ford ) is a former German track and field athlete. She was 1992 Olympic champion in the javelin.

Renk started for the GDR at the 1988 Olympic Games ( 66.38 m, fifth place ) and at the European Championships 1990 ( 64.76 m, fourth place ). At the German Championships followed in 1991 after finishing second in 1992 and 1993 respectively the gold medal. In 1995 there was bronze and again in 1996 the silver medal.

At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, she won with 68.34 m ( 67,24 - 62.08 to 65.34 - 65.62 to 68.34 m) the gold medal before starting for the CIS Natallja Schykalenka (Silver) and Deutsche Karen Forkel.

In 1993, she finished sixth at the World Championships. In 1994, she said, due to knee problems from taking part in the European Championships. She started at the 1995 World Championships and 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, but failed to qualify for the finals themselves.

Renk started for the SC Chemie Halle ( later SV Halle ). In her playing days, the 1.73 m tall athlete weighing 75 kg. After the end of their sports career, she was Vice President of SV Halle.
