Silken Laumann

Silken Laumann Suzette ( born November 14, 1964 in Mississauga ) is a former Canadian rowing athlete.

Silken Laumann, daughter of German immigrants, began in 1976 with the rowing and won with her sister Daniele at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, the bronze medal in the double sculls. After the Games of Seoul 1988, she joined the One and 1990 Vice World Champion.

Two months before the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 she took part in a regatta in Essen and was rammed from the boat by Colin von Ettingshausen and Peter Hoeltzenbein just before the start. She retired to a broken leg and severe muscle injury and was operated in the following weeks, five times. The end of June took it in a specially constructed for her boat back on the training and won the bronze medal in Barcelona. At the closing of the Games she was wearing the Canadian flag and won four years later at the Games of Atlanta the silver medal.

Silken Laumann in 1999 was honored along with Kathleen Heddle from the International Rowing Federation FISA with the Thomas Keller Medal.
