Silo of Asturias

Silo ( † 783 ) was 774-783 King of Asturias.

Silo was married to Adosinda, a daughter of King Alfonso I. This circumstance he owed that he came to power after the death of King Aurelio. His father is unknown. Like his predecessor, he kept peace with the Arabs, and, as the Chronicle of Albelda noted, " for his mother's sake " ( which apparently came from the Muslim area ). Speculation that the peace a submission silos under the suzerainty of the Emir Abd ar - Rahman I meant lack a basis in the sources and are not required to explain the peace.

Silo moved the capital of Asturias Cangas de Onís after Pravia. He threw down a rebellion in Galicia. Silo died childless. After his death his widow tried in vain to her nephew, the future King Alfonso II, to sit on the throne. In November 785, she joined in Pravia a monastery, the silo had founded.
