Silvanus P. Thompson

Silvanus Phillips Thompson ( born June 19, 1851 in York, England; † June 12, 1916 ) was an English physicist.

Life

Since 1876 Thompson was a teacher and since 1878 professor of experimental physics at Bristol, where he established the physical laboratory. Since 1885 he was a director and professor of physics at the Finsbury Technical College in Finsbury (London) and in 1891 a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Thompson wrote a large number of essays from the field of experimental physics, especially the theory of electricity and optics, he revised in 1881, the previously developed in the year of Paul Glan Glan- Thompson prism.
