Silberiodat is an inorganic chemical compound of the silver from the group of iodates.
Production and representation
Silberiodat can be obtained by reaction of a solution of silver nitrate with potassium iodate. It can also be obtained by reaction of potassium iodate with a silver sulfate or Silberdithionatlösung.
Properties
Silberiodat is a white light-sensitive solid that is practically insoluble but soluble in ammonia in water. When heated, it decomposes to silver and oxygen. It has an orthorhombic crystal structure with space group Pbc21.
